Oops! I should not have deleted that. No problem, all I have to do is just restore it from the recycle bin. Unintentionally deleting a file in a computer is almost never a problem. Now imagine the same situation while using your mobile. You delete an SMS without actually meaning to or later realise that you needed a deleted SMS, it is without hope, or is it? Not when you are using an iPhone and if that iPhone is jailbroken, and if you have an app installed in it.
The app is called Undelete SMS and it does just that. It un-deletes them or recovers your deleted SMSes. It basically works the same way many of the file recovery software for computers work. Undelete SMS scans through the SMS database of iPhone and Spotlight history to recover the deleted SMS(es). Another useful feature of the app is that while restoring the SMS it does it in plain text format. This makes it easier for the user to now use the file in any way they want, note down the information, save it in the phone or even send it as an SMS again.
Just like it’s computer software counterparts, Undelete SMS does not always guarantee to recover the SMS. This is because there are some criteria for the app to get results.
The app scans the remnant data from the deleted SMS and if the data has not been overwritten the SMS will be successfully recovered. Also the iPhone should be in active use for proper results. It works even on a back from an actively used iPhone. It will not work if the iPhone has been restored after the SMS was deleted as this completely cleans the phones memory.
The only sad part is the price of the app. At $7 it is pretty expensive, but if the SMS you have lost is priceless, then Undelete SMS is your best bet.
The app can be downloaded from Cydia app store through BigBoss repo.
