Ac1dSn0w jailbreak tool released recently contains copy righted code
You might be knowing about the recently released Ac1dSn0w jailbreak tool for iOS. A few of you might have already used it. Ac1dSn0w jailbreak tool is a Mac OS only jailbreak tool for Apple’s iOS. The tool comes from the Pwn Dev Team. There are a few other dev teams, Dev team and Chronic Dev team for example. Though, the Pwn dev team is not as highly regarded as the other two.
The Pwn dev team has given us good jailbreak tools in the and those were good ones. Ac1dSn0w is also good, but there is a very big issue with it. The Ac1dSn0w Mac only jailbreak tool uses copyrighted code in it. And this code comes directly from Apple, which makes the whole story a bit interesting and scary. Apple goes to any extent it has to go to get what it needs. What will happen in this case?
The thing is, when hackers start developing such jailbreak tools, they take Apple’s code, reverse engineer it, and then write their own code for it. This way, the app remains original and is in no way wrong, or crime in the eyes of the law. But this tool, the Ac1dSn0w jailbreak tool, uses Apple’s code not once, not twice, not even thrice, but a full 15 times. Now that is some serious bad thing to do.
As MuscleNerd explains, this is just what every developer wants to stay away. Now that the app, or the jailbreak tool is not legally correct, sharing or using it will become illegal, in other words, it is a crime. So if you have downloaded, better delete the file. And if you have been thinking of using it to jailbreak your iPhone using it, do not yet. Probably the code will be changed and made legal. You can then use it as much as you want.
