Paper Camera for Android

Though every camera phone has a basic camera app, not every one of them are good. Some are too basic and some have issues regarding functioning of the app, and even when it comes to 3rd party application from the Android Market, none of them give anything special. It is the normal. Color corrections and brightness corrections and sepia. The ‘special effects’ option provided by most apps are pathetic.

So when this is the current state of camera apps, it came as a surprise when I came across a certain camera app which both sounds different and looks different (the app icon). Once I started using it, I also discerned that it also performed differently. I had finally found a camera app with a difference.

The app is called Paper Camera and has been developed by JFDP Labs. The product brought out by them is amazing. Here are some of the photo effects which the app offers. Cartoon, sketch, comic book, old printer, neon, bleaching, half tone, noir, old newspaper and a few more. The coolest thing which the app brings with it is it’s real time processing. What you see is what you get. Not like other camera apps which first capture the image normally and then add the effects during post processing.

The app currently is not supported by Honeycomb, but the developers are currently working to make it compatible with Android 3.X devices. Another feature that is currently missing which will be added in the forthcoming versions is the ability to add the effects to existing pictures.

The next versions might even get video recording options. The one small flaw in the current version is that the camera can take photos only the size of of your phones resolution. Larger the resolution of the screen, so will be the size of the photo taken, but the coming version are sure to iron out this issue.

The app is available in the Android Market for $1.50 (some times $2.42).
