Is Windows Virtual a virtual machine for Windows Phone 7 apps?

We have already seen a lot of news about the new Windows Phone 8 and the upcoming release of the operating system on some new hardware. The Redmond tech giant, Microsoft, has not yet clearly specified if the company will be releasing the new operating system as an update to the existing Windows Phone 7 users or not. But still, we do keep getting rumors.

Today, we have a rather interesting news item. The developers of one of the most popular SMS apps for the Windows Phone 7, the Free SMS India, saw something interesting in their stats report. A new device by the name of Windows Virtual has been spotted on the internet. It is true that this device has been seen like this before, but nobody had given much thought about this, or did anybody decide to dig deep in.

We all thought that this was just a Windows Phone 8 emulator. But Free SMS India has a different story to tell. The developers think that this could be a virtual machine of the new Windows Phone 8 operating system to run Windows Phone 7 apps on it. If this is the case, a lot has already happened in the world of Windows Phone 8.

When Microsoft will release the new Windows Phone 8 like this, with a virtual machine embedded into it to run all Windows Phone 7 apps, the devices will have literally more than 100,000 apps to choose from the first day of the launch itself, which is going to be very attractive for the customers.

Apple had made use of the same strategy to win customers over its phone and tablet, the iPhone and the iPad. If Microsoft also provides so many apps on the first day of the launch itself, I do not see why people will not be interested to try one for themselves. In any case, let us just hope that we get the new OS pretty soon.
