BMW C Evolution On Road

When it comes to commuting in the bus, crowded, city streets, gear-less scooters are the best mode of personal travel and also, greener option due to their high fuel economy. So, what could be better than a nice and zippy city scooter? An electric scooter of course. This is exactly what BMW thinks and to emphasize the fact, it has unveiled the third generation of the concept electric scooter which we have seen earlier in BMW Motorad Innovation Day last year and then again in last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The C Evolution will be BMW’s final pre-production model of the E-scooter.

The first thing that everyone is interested about in any form of electric vehicle is the mileage and the speed, in that order. The C Evolution’s 8 kilowatt battery gives the scooter a more than adequate range of 100 Km or 62 miles and the top speed is 120 km/h or 75 m/h, which is way more than anyone will do within city limits. And did i mention the speed is electronically limited? BMW says that the range of the scooter might even increase by 10 to 20 percent, thanks to another power saving feature incorporated in the electric scooter. Regenerative braking. Every time the brakes are applied by you, an electric unit in the scooter captures the energy produced by it and uses it to recharge the battery.

BMW C evolutionThe battery pack itself is a 8 Kwh unit which is capable of producing an average power output of 15 hp or 11Kw and can produce a max of 47 hp or 35 kW. Enough power in fact to “comfortably holds its own against current maxi scooters a capacity of 600 cc or more”

When it comes to charging the C evolution, BMW has made sure that owners should face the least amount of problem in finding a charging point by installing the J1772 charging ports. This means the C Evolution can be charged at the same charging ports used by electric cars. The battery can be juiced up completely in 3 hours.

Though the price has not yet been announced, BMW says the C Evolution will be available to the public by 2014.
