Codemasters Previews F1 2012 With New Game Modes
The 2012 season F1 simulation game from Codemasters is still a month away from hitting the stores but the developers have released previews of what to expect from this season’s game. The major changes to look forward to in F1 2012 will the three new game modes. Young Driver Test, Season Challenge and the most exciting of them all, Champions mode. Also included in the new game is two new circuits, Circuit Of The Americas and the returning, Hockenheim circuit, Germany.
Young Drive Test in the real world of Formula 1 is where potential future F1 drivers from sub-F1 racing series are given a chance to showcase their skills and abilities to F1 teams, who invite them. A golden opportunity for any aspiring F1 driver. In the digital version, however, this is a stage where rookie players, those who are new to the game, get to learn. Basically, a tutorial level to familiarize new players with the controls and feel of the game.
The second new game mode, Season Challenge, is a fast track career mode. The “Career Mode” in earlier versions spanned over five ‘game years’, with players having to go through lengthy racers to climb higher up the ladder. Season Challenge is for those who do not have the time or patience to sit in front of the screen for hours with the controller in hand. Everything is shortened and quicker so you can reach the peak sooner.
Finally, there is the new Champions Mode. There are six world champions, Kimi Räikkönen, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and finally Michael Schumacher. Players get to race these real life champions in the same order. Players have to beat the Champion in a race scenario and only after winning that will the next scenario with the next Champion be unlocked.
“The Kimi Räikkönen challenge sees the player join a race as Kimi’s teammate at Spa Francorchamps. The player has just pitted and is on new tyres while the rest of the pack is on worn rubber with three laps to go until the end of the race. In order to complete the scenario the player has to race through the pack and overtake Kimi before the end of the race.”
The F1 2012 will be available from September 18, in the U.S. for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
