Porsche will be showcasing the concept version of a Panamera Wagon next month at the Paris Auto Show, reports Autoweek. The concept will be first step towards a possible future product from the German car maker.

The Panamera Wagon concept will be showcased in the Auto show to gauge buyer interest in such a product from the company. Depending on a positive response to the concept, Porsche will move ahead with the plan to start working on the concept which could then take a few years to reach production stage.

Volkswagen, Porsche’s parent company, which is Europe’s largest automobile manufacturer ot aiming for the global crown by 2018. Porsche customer base expansion with the launch of new models is a part of the same plan. The Stuttgart based Porsche is also working on a new compact SUV called Macan.

The Panamera Wagon concept, which could also be called a shooting brake version of the Panamera, could be expected to come with a longer, slanting roof line, folding back seats, making space for a larger luggage carrying space. The Panamera Wagon could be seen competing with other in the category, such as the much talked about, Mercedes-Benz CLS shooting brake.

It is one proposal we are looking at to increase the reach of the Panamera,” according to Autoweek source. “From the feedback we’re receiving right now, there appears to be sales potential for such a car in certain markets, especially Europe.”

While the Panamera Wagon will come with a standard wheelbase, Porsche is also expected to bring out versions with longer wheelbase, to fit in as a Limousine, for certain markets, such as China. Autoweek also reports that other than the Shooting Brake version of the Panamera, Porsche might also bring out coupe and cabriolet versions, which could be the replacements for replacement for the Bentley Continental GT and GTC.
