888poker – the world’s premier online poker room – has attracted a loyal base of 5 million players, and the numbers continue to rise. 888 has skillfully fanned an interest in its broad range of products, notably casino games, poker attractions and sportsbetting enterprise. And now, with the introduction of the 888 Poker App for iPhone, iPad and Android it seems poised to increase its base even more. Before the introduction of the app there was little argument that the company was a master of marketing. Now, the gaming giant has successfully taken its very popular desktop site and created a mobile phone app that it hopes won’t disappoint existing customers while adding scores of new ones. It appears that players are flocking to 888poker to sample its latest innovation – so far, so good!

Simple Sign Up

The 888 Poker App has certainly succeeded in making for a smooth and comfortable transition from the desktop to the mobile gaming device. It’s simple to sign up and deposit funds to play, although it is actually more expeditious to download the desktop client onto your computer and then register and deposit your funds. It is possible but not all that easy to do these things from the phone’s small screen. But once these two tasks are completed you can switch over to your mobile phone and download the app from Apple’s app store for your iPhone and iPad. For Androids you go to the 888 Poker site and type in your phone number and you will be e-mailed a link to download the app.

Test Drive it First

You may not be certain that you want to test-drive the app, but the enticements are too good to resist. 888 has an offer that allows you to play with $8 (£12) free without making a deposit. You can play all of the mobile poker games at no risk. Even better is the bonus that awaits you if you do make a deposit. The site will match your deposit 100% up to $400.

The 888 website lobby with its signature black and blue hues, is inviting, with easy to understand instructions that will have you playing in no time.

If the game selection isn’t quite as large as it is on the desktop version, that won’t matter to die-hard Texas Hold’em aficionados. You can play No Limit, Fixed Limit, Pot Limit Hold’em, playing cash games or Sit & Go (SNGs), with six or nine players. You can also play the heads up option. Some people might consider this too limiting, but we think this will accommodate most players, so we rate its selection as a positive.

Ease of Navigation

Moving from place to place on the app is relatively easy and most players will be comfortable in this new environment in a few minutes.

To ease your navigation with the 888 app, the layout is divided into three parts:

The Beginner’s Section: This gives you an easy to understand introduction to the game with low stakes. You can learn the game without risking much, as you might if you were playing higher stakes.

Cash Games: This section is where you will find most mobile poker players. Blinds range from $0.03/$0.06 up to $1/$2. This will satisfy all but the hardcore high rollers.

Sit & Go’s (SNGs): This is also a very popular selection among mobile players and also for those who want to spend more than just a few minutes playing. You can buy in for any amount from $1 – $55. That range will satisfy most players most of the time.

Among the most useful mobile applications include those dedicated to educational sciences: mathematics, physics or chemistry, said in an analysis those from The PhoneGeeks.

To facilitate learning mathematics, the Mathematics Reference Formula application brings together a series of formulas and examples of calculations in areas such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, matrices, vectors or variables.

Those wishing to conduct exercises directly on your mobile phone can use the Math Workout application that allows arithmetic operations, their correction, and development of a user’s graphical progress in a certain period of time.

In physics and chemistry there can be used applications like Physics Cheat Sheets and Chemistry Cheat Sheets that include explanations of physical phenomena and chemical reactions, a series of formulas and examples of exercises.

Also in chemistry, another useful application is Elements – Periodic Table, which shows the Mendeleev’s periodic table.

In addition to dedicated applications sciences, pupils and students can find useful and mainstream applications, type encyclopedias such as Wolfram Alpha or Mobile Wikipedia, which shows highly structured information from different fields, such as geography, history, music, art, etc..

Other interesting applications for students are those who help organize school activities and schedules, as well as School Assistant or Any.Do.

“Educational applications are not yet well known locally, as smartphones are most often associated with entertainment. However students will discover and will use in a couple of years such widespread practical applications in school and learning” , added The PhoneGeeks.

The best gadgets for running these educational applications are the devices with large displays and high visual quality, which can provide high speed operation and which have a number of features compatible with these type of applications.

We all know that the iOS 6 is packed with Apple’s very own maps app, but that did not stopped Google from talking about getting its own app approved on the App Store. However, the talks between the two giants have been overblown, especially after Google’s Eric Schmidt admitted that the company has “not done anything yet in regards to offering iOS device owners an alternative to the default iOS 6 maps app.”

Schmidt is currently visiting Japan to launch the Nexus 7 tablet by Google and also to introduce Google Play Book and new movie content, told Reuters that the company has not officially moved to launch an app, but it has been “talking with Apple for a long time,” and also added that “we talk to them every day.”

Ever since the news became public that Apple would introduce its very own mapping services and drop support for Google Maps, the search giant has been consistently spreading the message that it is working with Apple in order to develop a solution not just for iOS, but for every mobile platform.

Apple has been on the receiving end of some negative reviews because of its maps app regardless of the announcement that iOS 6 is now running on more than 100 million devices, which also brings with it the maps app. The map app by Apple is displaying incorrect locations, incomplete 3D renderings of buildings and cities and there is a lack of mapping data in many countries, so all in all, it may seem that iOS 6 was too soon for this app.

According to the Apple’s statement, Trudy Muller of Apple said that “The more people use it, the better it will get,” because it is a major initiative for the company and it would certainly take some to develop into a perfect app.

Google Now might be in its infancy, but it’s still a really useful part of Google Search. Now, it’s getting even better with a new update available in the Google Play store.

Jelly Bean users will get a few cool new functions added to the Google Now experience. One of these changes has to do with movie showtimes. Google Now will populate information on the movie that you search for, such as where it’s playing and at what times – it can even send you alerts if you are near a specific theater.

Another similar feature comes to sports, you can now manually select your favorite sports team and a card will be updated with information about the team, updating in real-time.

Last but not least, Google Now is getting very useful public service alert capabilities. Snow coming to your area? Perhaps a tropical storm? Google Now will gather information that could affect the area in which you live, giving you updates and alerts as they develop.

Clearly, Google Now isn’t just a Siri clone, it’s a whole lot more. Beyond searching, Google Now is truly smart and gathers the information we need now, without much user intervention required. While Jelly Bean has many great features, this is probably the most compelling reason to upgrade to the latest Android OS.

If you are really wanting to get your hands on Google Now and don’t have a device that currently supports Jelly Bean, officially or through a ROM, there are ways to unlock it in Android ICS.

Do you have Jelly Bean installed already, or do you have a hack in place that brings Google Now to an earlier version of Android? What do you think of Google Now?

Almost a year and a half ago, the Grooveshark app for Android was removed from the Google Play Store. While Google doesn’t remove apps nearly as much as Apple does – it happens when they have good reasons.

So why did they remove the app? Grooveshark’s parent, Escape Media, has been tangled up in a legal war for quite some time now, with accusations from three of the four major record label groups. Grooveshark previously allowed anyone to upload music for listening pleasure, without any regulation or license for the music played.

While Escape Media has stuck by the claim that they will work to respond to take down notices for any infringing content, Google decided to remove the app in order to prevent itself from getting caught up in the lawsuit drama.

Today though, Grooveshark for Android is back to Google Play. What changed Google’s minds? A recent decision in a New York suite that pitted Universal Music against Escape Media. Universal claimed that the safe harbor provisions in the DMCA didn’t apply to recordings before 1972, but the judge didn’t agree with the argument.

This is just the first of many legal entanglements ahead for Grooveshark, but the victory was enough to give Google the confidence to reinstate the Google for Android app. For iOS users though, Grooveshark remains pulled from the AppStore.

One of the more debated about topics relating to Apple iPad is whether it is a suitable productivity tool or not. The lack of a proper Office tool does make it hard for iPad lovers to defend their favourite tablet. At one time, it was widely believed that Microsoft would introduce their Microsoft Office suite for the iPad. In fact, there were even leaked images that appeared on the net. But the initial excitement died down after Microsoft made it clear that it would not be bringing MS Office to the Apple tablet. Chances are even slimmer, now that the Redmond company is set to bring out its own Windows RT tablet.

While it might not be possible to directly run MS Office on the iPad, there are many alternate options which allow the Office suite to be run via cloud or as an image. Some of the better known among these apps are DataViz’s Docs to Go or Quickoffice, as well as services such as CloudOn, Nivio Online Desktop. The Office suite can also be accessed on the iPad via Microsoft Web Apps, using the Chrome web browser but the web app is not designed specifically for tablets or touch screens, at least not yet, so this makes it difficult and sometimes even impractical to use it on the iPad.

InstallFree Nexus is another service that tries to bring the Microsoft Office experience on the iPad, but does it really deliver. Despite the misleading name, InstallFree Nexus has nothing whatsoever to do with the Google hardware, there is nothing to install since it is not an app but a cloud based service and finally, it is not a free service.

So, after clearing the confusion with the name, the service is a simple one. Just register to create an account and associate a cloud account that you hold (currently Dropbox, Box SkyDrive and Google Drive are supported) because it does not have a cloud storage service of its own. Once you are logged into the service, you can start creating and editing documents on Microsoft Office and the completed documents can then be saved back in your cloud storage drive, which can then be accessed from any web browser.

InstallFree Nexus also supports a few touch and swipe input gestures to make it easy for iPad users. Quickly tapping thrice on the screen brings up a QWERTY keyboard, that has all the traditional keys, including function keys.

However, InstallFree Nexus suffers from the same problem that is faced on using Microsoft Web app on the iPad. The various buttons on the ribbons are too small to be used easily and between the broad ribbon and the on screen keyboard, there i very little space left for actually typing. An external keyboard could be used instead of the onscreen keyboard but that adds additional cost.

If you still want to give InstallFree Nexus service a try, subscription is available at $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year for students; $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year for non-students. There is also a free access to LibreOffice suite.

The popular mobile web browser Maxthon is now available for iPhone. Maxthon mobile web browser app has been available for Apple iPad and Android smartphones and Android tablets for some time now but a dedicated Maxthon browser app for the iPhone was missing till now.

Naturally, any third party web browser is better than the Safari mobile browser and Maxthon does a better job than many third party mobile browsers. Maxthon brings with it many of the features that we are already familiar with when it comes to mobile browsing. features such as opening new pages in tabs, home screen with website icons that are shortcuts to favourite websites and many more. Some of the not so regular features include, private browsing, and the ability to save favourite pages or bookmark them, which are then stored in the cloud, ready to be accessed on any device if you use Maxthon and log into your account.

But the two best features that i really like are the Reader mode and the inbuilt Download manager. Download manager will let you read the actual content in a web page, eliminating all the ads and other unnecessary content. Whenever you visit a page that supports Reader feature, a “book” icon appears on the address bar, clicking on which enables the Reader mode.

With the Download manager, downloading content such as images or files from web pages on a small smartphone screen is no longer a tedious job. The download manager manages all your downloads and organizes them.

The Maxthon mobile web browser is a free download and there are no ads either. The app is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4/4S, iPod touch 3rd gen and 4th gen and requires your device to run iOS 4.3 at least.

Since Maxthon for iPhone is still in version 1, it lacks some of the features that are found in the Android app and the iPad app and are expected to be added in the subsequent versions.

Yes, this is the same Simpsons game that was launched a few months back which was later pulled back. The reason for the pull back was because Electronics Arts servers were loaded due to the high number of players. Just goes to show how popular Homer or Simpsons in general, really is. EA Games have now brought back the game on the Apple App Store the servers are now ready to handle the high traffic. The new version also supports Retina display and from personal experience, Springfield has never looked better.

For those who are new to this game, let me explain what The Simpsons: Tapped Out is all about. The game starts with a cutscene where we see our good old Homer Simpson, who works at the Nuclear Power plant in Springfield, is in the control room busy playing on his iPad, when the power plant gets overloaded and as expected, Homer does not notice and BOOM goes Springfield in the resulting nuclear meltdown. Thus the game begins.

The player’s task is to now take control of Homer, the sole survivor, and start building the town from scratch. As the player proceeds through the game new characters are found.

The Simpsons: Tapped Out is a must for any Simpsons fan as it has everything that you love about the cartoon. All your favorite characters, all the original wacky and hilarious dialogues from the series and controlling all the Simpsons characters and send them on missions.

App Store description

HOW FUN IS IT? LET US COUNT THE WAYS!

1. First, you can get it for free!

2. Make Springfield just like you want it.

3. Help Homer find Marge, Bart, and the rest of his family and friends! (Ned Flanders, too.)

4. Complete tasks to earn… mmm, donuts!

5. Make Apu work ridiculously long shifts at Kwik-E-Mart.

6. Grow and harvest Tomacco on Cletus’s Farm.

7. Party down with Duffman at Duff Brewery.

8. See how your Indolence, Consumerism, Gluttony stack up on the Conform-o-meter.

9. Enjoy exclusive, never-before-seen animated scenes sure to please fans of TV’s longest-running comedy.

10. Visit your friends’ Springfields, play pranks, and collect cash.

The game can be downloaded for free from the App Store.

While waiting for the newest version of Android to reach your device via an update, you will want to have some features of the operating system without having to install a custom ROM or mode. Currently you can install Google Now, Google Sound Search or the Android 4.1 keyboard on your non-Jelly Bean terminal. It’s time to add another feature.

The Jelly Bean StatusBar brings the new operating system’s flavor on Android 4.1 pre-ROMs. Without waiting for a official update, you can achieve the look of the new Android OS on your device with or without root. The application also allows some very useful options that you do not normally find on Jelly Bean. You can display the battery percentage or counter for notifications, among others, without installing a separate application.

The Jelly Bean StatusBar can handle all the installed applications’ notifications. To work, this function requires the activation of the Accessibility Service for application. To do this you need to go to Settings> Accessibility> Jellybean StatusBar. There is also an ignore list so you can exclude any notifications from any application. Here are some features of the Jelly Bean StatusBar:

Clone of Android ‘s 4.1 official status bar;
Enables notifications from third-party applications;
Auto-detection for hidden status bar or screen orientation;
The task manager can be stopped safely! It will automatically restart;
Smooth transition for the pull down bar gesture;
Settings to choose what content to display;
Exclusion list for unwanted notifications;
Counter for repeated notifications;
Battery percentage indicator (based on normal device use);
Minimal use of RAM under 24MB;

You can download the Jelly Bean StatusBar free on the Play Store.
